THE EAST HERTS CORINTHIAN SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

   LCC CUP
13th MAY 2007

HORNS MILL UTD 2 V 1 A.F.C. CHESHUNT
Jamie Higgs (Pen)        Danny Atkins (O/G)
Danny Atkins (Pen)

I would like to wish A.F.C Cheshunt all the best for next season. As manager of Horns mill Utd I would like to thank every one involved with A.F.C Cheshunt for their great sportsmanship throughout both games. We both have a lot of respect for each other and that is why it was so enjoyable. Its not nice watching your opponents picking up the winner's trophy but that what both sides have had to do.

This game lived up to its billing with the two sides, who have both been the inform sides in Division 1.

Both sides having won one trophy each this year.

Hornsmill winning the league, AFC Cheshunt winning the league cup final.

This was always going to be a battle, and it turned out that way.

With the heavens opening up it made the conditions even trickier.

However, after only 10 minutes with sustained pressure from Cheshunt they forced a corner and from it became a scramble in the box only for Danny Atkins to put the ball into his own net.

This was well deserved as Hornsmill were put under a lot of pressure.

Then with half an hour gone a ball put through the A.F.C Cheshunt defence saw James Judkins bearing down on goal only the keeper Brad Lacey to pull him down for a penalty.

Up steps, Jamie Higgs to smash the ball home not before keeper lacey got his hands to it and it squeezed under his body.

That made it 1-1 then the second half saw Hornsmill Utd apply a lot of pressure on A.F.C Cheshunt.

However, with Gary Schillaci in defence showing every one why this lad should be playing at a higher standard. He was playing for Alsbury but the travelling was too much with his work commitments and the training. This lad was a different class over the two-cup finals.

The second half saw both sides going close but no one could get the winner.

So going into extra time with both sides still looking to win the game, Hornsmill Utd win a corner with Ricky kettridge to deliver, it was whipped in only for a Cheshunt player to handle the ball in the box and yet another penalty for Hornsmill Utd.
This time no one wanted to take it with Jamie Higgs subbed after half time.

No one wanted the responsibility of being the hero or the villain so up steps an ice cool Danny Atkins who had scored an own goal and wanted to make amends.

Putting the ball into the top left hand corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.

Then A.F.C Cheshunt looking to get back into it, could not get the goal they needed and Hornsmill ran out the winners.
